North Forty Designs evolved from our family's various hobbies and interests . .. gemstones, wood turning and the love of a little whimsy!
Creating jewelry grew from my interest in crystals and gemstones. It was fascinating reading about their history, their healing powers and spiritual meanings. I enjoyed talking with and learning from the many artists I met at craft and trade shows. It inspired me to start designing a few pieces for friends. Their response and encouragement helped me decide to share these stones with others and show them their beauty in affordable designs. Continuing to learn new techniques and experimenting with different materials, my jewelry designs range from the simplicity of a stone pendant, the elegance of a single strand of gemstones or pearls, to the bold statements of multi-layered and large bead necklaces.
The guys love anything to do with wood - from making furniture to turning it on a lathe. Adding acrylic blanks to the mix resulted in having their lathe items added to the product line-up.
The decorative stands began when I wanted to display an ornament I loved somewhere other than on my Christmas tree. It further evolved into putting a little bling on my dresser and then on my office desk.
Our greatest joys have been when a customer either sends an email telling us how much they love the item they bought or even better when they return to visit us during the next craft show season!
People often ask me about the “North Forty” business name. It is what I call the several acres of land I shared with my mother, before she passed, and my brother and his family. It’s a place to escape the hustle & bustle of suburbia, enjoy the tranquility and beauty of nature, to let my racing thoughts find peace and just be . . . my home.
